1. Council thank the witnesses for their diligence in reporting the vandalism of the Dog on the Tuckerbox monument resulting in the perpetrator being identified and charged 2. Council express its appreciation for the outpouring of support received from all parts of Australia and beyond. 3. Council’s Manager Facilities and staff be thanked for their swift response in securing the site and safely removing the Dog on the tuckerbox monument to a secure location.
|
As the community would now be aware, the iconic Dog on the Tuckerbox monument was senselessly vandalised on Saturday, 27th July, 2019. As a result of this reckless act of vandalism this national icon, which is a symbol of the Gundagai Township, was damaged.
The community of Gundagai is rightly outraged at this wanton vandalism and its elected representatives this Council wishes the sentiments of its community be known.
It is pleasing that the swift action of the people who witnessed the incident and assisted in identifying the perpetrators has led to charges being laid.
On behalf of Council I would like to sincerely thank those witnesses, and the people who sent well wishes which have been received from all parts of Australia and beyond for taking the time to offer their support.
The community can be assured that Council will ensure the Dog on the Tuckerbox monument is repaired to its original condition and returned to its location as a matter of urgency so that travellers can continue and enjoy the national treasure that is proudly synonymous with Gundagai and its people.

An Extraordinary Meeting of Council be held to consider the Call Option Deed between Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council and Paramount Concrete Constructions. |
Introduction
Through Council’s appointed solicitor, a draft Call Option Deed has been prepared and will be distributed to Councillors separately.
This document nominates the Option for Paramount Concrete Constructions to purchase 37 Annie Pyers Drive, Gundagai for the agreed purchase price and subject to the terms and conditions of the deed.
Discussion
Expressions of Interest were invited in relation to the development and enhancement of the famous national icon “The Dog on the Tuckerbox site”. Submissions closed on 7th December, 2018 with two submissions being received. At a Workshop held on 19th December, 2018, Council agreed to invite the two developers to present at a Councillor Workshop which was held on 12th February, 2019.
Both presentations included appropriate concept drawings to represent the development to Council, in the first instance. Pricing structures of the proposed works were provided. Details on the applicants’ experience within the tourism and development industry, and evidence of prior work developing other sites was provided.
Council, at its meeting held 26th February, 2019, resolved that:
I. Paramount Concrete Construction be selected as the preferred developer of the Dog on the Tuckerbox site.
2. Council, in partnership with Paramount Concrete Construction and through open dialogue and negotiation, fulfill all avenues to procure the development and enhancement of the site whilst ensuring that a financially sustainable model is in place for its long term viability.
3. The negotiations referred to in 2 above be conditional on the following four aspects being achieved:
I. Preservation and enhancement of the Dog on The Tuckerbox Memorial.
II. Preservation of the historic ruins - The Joseph Carberry Inn (aka) Limestone Inn.
III. Provide and maintain Public Amenity facilities.
IV. The development must meet the objectives of the zoning under the Gundagai Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2011.
